Flank Steak with Cajun Garlic Butter

I mean, this easy Flank Steak with Cajun Garlic Butter recipe in a cast iron skillet, grill, or Blackstone griddle can just kind of speak for itself.

Just steak alone is a perfect meal in my opinion, but adding Cajun garlic butter makes it over the top delicious!

And it’s a keto friendly recipe and low carb if you’re into that!

How to make Flank Steak with Cajun Garlic Butter

The key to the making the Cajun garlic butter is making sure the butter is at room temperature.

Simply mix the butter with some Cajun seasoning and garlic paste.

I use garlic paste because it blends easier without a chunk of garlic here and there.

You could certainly use minced garlic though if you don’t have the paste.

The steak gets coated with olive oil and sprinkled with kosher salt and pepper.

Flank steak is one of my favorite cuts of steak.

Flat Iron steak would be a great substitute if you can’t find flank steak.

The steak will cook in a large skillet, grill, or Blackstone griddle over medium to medium high heat.

This is a cast iron skillet, which is great because it’s heavy and evenly distributes the heat.

Just about 3 to 5 minutes per side for medium rare to medium doneness.

During the last minute place a spoonful of the Cajun butter over top.

It will slowly melt into the steak.

You’ll want to let the steak rest on a cutting board for a few minutes to let the juices redistribute.

If you cut into it right away you’ll lose some of the juices (aka- yummy goodness).

When you cut flank steak it’s very important to cut it in slices against the grain.

If you don’t the steak will be tough.

Serve Flank Steak with Cajun Garlic Butter with more of that Cajun butter over top and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 to 2 pound flank steak
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • kosher salt, pepper
  • 4 tablespoons butter at room temperature
  • 3/4 tablespoon cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic paste or minced garlic

Instructions

  1. Brush the steak with 1 tablespoon of the olive oil and sprinkle both sides with kosher salt and pepper.

  2. In a small bowl add the butter (at room temp), cajun seasoning, and garlic. Stir until evenly mixed.

  3. Preheat a cast iron skillet, grill, or Blackstone griddle over medium high heat. Add the remaining olive oil and the steak (oil not needed if grilling). Cook 3-5 minutes per side for medium rare to medium doneness.

  4. During the last minute of cooking spoon 1 tablespoon of the Cajun garlic butter on top of the steak and let it melt into the steak.

  5. Remove the steak and let it rest 5 to 10 minutes.

  6. Slice the steak against the grain and serve with remaining cajun garlic butter over top.
