Salmon Burgers with Avocado Yogurt

Salmon Burgers with Avocado Yogurt

Salmon burgers with avocado yogurt is a tasty and healthy recipe that can made in a skillet or air fryer.

As if the salmon burgers weren’t yummy enough, we are also making an avocado sauce that really takes the dish to a whole new level.

And if you are doing a low carb thing, simply have your burger with the yogurt sauce for dipping.

How to make salmon burgers with avocado yogurt

Cut a pound of salmon into 2 inch pieces.

Then put them in a food processor and pulse a few times so the salmon comes together but is not completely smooth.

If your salmon has skin, simply remove the skin before this step.

Put the ground up salmon in a bowl and gather your other ingredients.

Making the patties for the salmon burgers

Add some bread crumbs, green onions or chopped cilantro, garlic, an egg, kosher salt, pepper, and a seasoning blend of choice.

I have lots of favorite seasoning blends, but I had to go with Old Bay for these since it pairs well with seafood.

Ingredients for salmon burgers in a bowl

Gently mix together with your hands and form into four burger patties.

Carefully place the delicate salmon burgers in the Air Fryer or cook them in a skillet.

I went with the Air Fryer… all I had to do was set it to 380 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.

Salmon burgers in the Air Fryer before cooking

While the salmon burgers are cooking, make the avocado yogurt.

Put a 5 ounce container of plain Greek yogurt, an avocado, lime juice, kosher salt, and pepper in a food processor or blender.

Just blend until smooth and your sauce is good to go!

The Air Fryer makes cooking these burgers so easy and they look extra amazing.

But if you choose to cook them in a skillet, do so over medium heat with a little olive oil for 3 to 5 minutes per side.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound salmon skin removed
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro or green onion
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 3 to 4 cloves garlic minced
  • kosher salt, pepper, all purpose seasoning blend or season salt of choice (I used Old Bay)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 5.3 ounce container plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 small avocado
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 4 burger buns
  • Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, etc.

Instructions

  1. Cut the skinless salmon into 2 inch pieces and put them in a food processor and pulse a few times so the salmon comes together but is not completely smooth.

  2. Put the salmon in a bowl along with the cilantro or green onions, bread crumbs, egg, garlic, kosher salt, pepper, and seasoning a blend of choice. Gently combine with your hands and form into four burger patties.

  3. Cook the salmon patties according to one of these methods:

Air Fryer: Place the burgers in the air fryer basket, set to 380 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. No olive oil is needed with this cooking method.

Skillet: Preheat a large skillet to medium heat and add the olive oil. Once hot add the burgers and cook 3 to 5 minutes per side. Watch the heat and if the skillet gets too hot lower the heat to medium low.

  4. While the burgers are cooking make the avocado yogurt sauce. Put the yogurt, avocado, lime juice, kosher salt, and pepper in a food processor or blender. Blend until smooth.

  5. Serve the salmon burgers on buns with the avocado yogurt and toppings of choice such as lettuce, tomato, and onion.
