Bacon Wrapped Shrimp Jalapeno Poppers

Bacon Wrapped Shrimp Jalapeno Poppers

It’s almost football season, and it’s game on for me when it comes to the snacks and appetizers… these Bacon Wrapped Shrimp Jalapeno Poppers are going on my game day menu for sure!

You can bake these in the oven, or cook them on your Traeger pellet grill or smoker.

And mix it up with the seasoning by using either BBQ seasoning or your favorite Cajun seasoning blend.

How to make Bacon Wrapped Shrimp Jalapeno Poppers

For the filling, mix together some cream cheese, shredded cheese, and your seasoning blend of choice in one bowl.

This helps if the cream cheese is at room temperature.

In a separate bowl season a pound of medium size shrimp with the same seasoning.

I went with BBQ, but next time can’t wait to try the Cajun!

Cut 8 to 10 jalapeno peppers in half lengthwise and scrape out the seeds.

Or leave a few in for a spicier version.

Then fill each jalapeno half with the cheesy filling.

Top each with a shrimp and wrap each in a slice of bacon, overlapping slightly and tucking it in at the end.

Place them on a wire baking rack over a lined baking sheet.

They will cook in a 350 degree oven for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the bacon is done how you like.

Or cook them in your smoker or pellet grill for 2 to 2 1/2 hours at 250 degrees, placing them right on the grill grate.

Ingredients

  • 8 to 10 jalapeno peppers (mine were medium to large in size)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese at room temperature
  • 1 cup shredded cheese of choice
  • BBQ or Cajun seasoning blend
  • 16 to 20 medium size shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 16 to 20 slices bacon (not thick cut)

Instructions

  1. Cut the jalapenos peppers in half lengthwise. Scrape out the seeds and ribs out with a spoon.

Note: If you have sensitive skin gloves are recommended.

  2. Put the cream cheese, shredded cheese, and some of the BBQ or Cajun seasoning in a bowl. Stir until evenly mixed, this does take a minute or two but the room temp cream cheese helps.

  3. Fill each jalapeno half with the cheesy mixture. Lightly season the shrimp with more of BBQ or Cajun seasoning and top each popper with a shrimp.

  4. Wrap a slice of bacon around each popper, overlapping slightly and tucking the bacon at the end if needed. Sprinkle more BBQ or Cajun seasoning over top.

  5. Oven Directions: Put the poppers on a wire baking rack over a lined baking sheet. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 40 to 50 minutes, or until the bacon is cooked how you prefer.

Pellet Grill Directions: Preheat the pellet grill or smoker to 250 degrees. Place the poppers on the grate for 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
