Waffle Corn Dogs
But I thought of a more creative way of using cornbread mix to make this easy, kid friendly recipe for Waffle Corn Dogs.
My kids and I have been kind of obsessed with cornbread lately.
Usually we have it with soups and chili.
As you can see it was both kid and dog approved!
This is our favorite brand of cornbread mix to use and we always have it on hand.
I just made the batter according to the package directions.
For the hot dogs, all you need to do is put a skewer in the center almost all the way to the top.
All I had were the longer kabob skewers, so I used a knife to cut each one a little shorter.
How to make Waffle Corn Dogs
First, preheat the waffle maker.
Once heated spray with non stick cooking spray.
A little batter goes down first, then the hot dogs with the sticks facing out.
Try to get the hot dog in between the waffle maker grooves as best you can.
And a little more batter over top. Just enough to cover the hot dog.
Close the lid and let it cook 7 to 9 minutes.
Once they are done unplug the waffle iron and gently remove them.
I used a butter knife to get each one started.
I also found that letting them cool for a few minutes made them less likely to fall apart.
Cut each in half and voila….you have yourself a Waffle Corn Dog!
We dipped ours in dijon mustard and they were SO yummy đŸ™‚
Such a fun dinner or lunch, and a fun experience doing it together with the kids.

- 8 hot dogs
- 8 wooden skewers
- non stick cooking spray
- Optional: mustard, dijon mustard, or ketchup for dipping
Instructions
-
Prepare the cornbread mix according to package directions. Put the wooden skewers through the center of each hot dog.

Heat the waffle iron and when heated spray the non stick cooking spray the top and bottom well. Put some of the cornbread mix in each of the four squares. Place two hot dogs in each square with the skewers facing out. Cover each hot dog with more cornbread batter.
-
Close the lid and cook 7 to 9 minutes.
-
Carefully remove the waffle corn dogs and cut each one in half.
Hint: Letting them cool for a few minutes makes them less likely to fall apart, and use a butter knife to help getting them out a little easier.
