Honey Wasabi Salmon

Honey Wasabi Salmon

This was a fun night for my family trying both an air fryer and a flat top grill Honey Wasabi Salmon recipe.

Sometimes I get weird and try different cooking methods with the same recipe on the same night.

Then we taste test them at dinner and pick our favorites.

The marinade and sauce for this is a mixture of soy sauce, honey, wasabi sauce, garlic, and ginger.

It’s the perfect mix of sweet, salty, and a spicy kick from the wasabi đŸ™‚

Wasabi sauce is much milder in flavor compared to wasabi paste or powder.

If using the paste or powder use waaaaayyy less than the sauce.

Whisk it all together and divide between two bowls.

One will be for brushing on the salmon, and one for a dipping sauce.

Cooking methods for Honey Wasabi Salmon

This is one pound of salmon that I cut into two fillets.

Actually I had 4 pounds of salmon and 4 fillets…two for the air fryer and two for the flat top griddle and doubled the sauce.

But that was just for my odd cooking method experiment đŸ˜‰

Brush the salmon with some of the sauce before cooking.

And place them skin side down in the air fryer at 400 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes …

Or the flat top grill that has been preheated to medium heat for several minutes.

Brush with the sauce a few times throughout cooking.

The flat top grill salmon takes about 4 to 5 minutes per side.

And the skin easily comes off when you flip it.

No need to flip the air fryer salmon at all.

And when removing it slide a spatula between the salmon and skin and it easily slides off.

Serve with the remaining sauce on the side of Honey Wasabi Salmon for dipping đŸ™‚

So…the verdict of which we liked the most…the flavor was amazing in both versions.

We did prefer the crisp char on the flat top grill.

With me being the cook I felt the air fryer salmon was easier to prepare though.

Whichever way you prepare this, it’s highly recommended by me and my family!

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsps honey
  • 2 Tbsps wasabi sauce (or 1 tsp if using wasabi paste)
  • 2 Tbsps soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp garlic paste or minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp ginger paste or minced ginger
  • 2 large salmon fillets (approx 1 pound)
  • Optional: green onions and sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Add the honey, wasabi sauce. soy sauce, garlic, and ginger to a bowl and whisk until evenly mixed.

  2. Put half of this mixture in a bowl and set aside as a dipping sauce. Brush some of the other half on all sides of the salmon.

  3. Cook according to one of these methods

Oven: Place the salmon skin side down on a lined baking sheet. Bake in a 400 degree oven on the middle rack for 12 minutes, brushing with the sauce a few more times. Turn the broiler on high for an additional 2 to 3 minutes.

Air Fryer: Place the salmon in the air fryer basket skin side down, set the air fryer to 400 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes.

Flat Top Griddle: Preheat the griddle to medium heat for several minutes, oil the griddle and place the salmon skin side down. Flip the salmon with a metal spatula after 4 minutes (the skin will most likely peel off easily while flipping). Cook 4 to 5 more minutes, flip again and brush with more sauce.

  4. Serve with the extra sauce for dipping.
