Air Fryer Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos

Air Fryer Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos

I wanted to try a recipe for Air Fryer Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos.

Confession: I have never had the actual Bang Bang Shrimp at Bonefish Grill where I’m pretty sure this sauce became famous.

But I have had “Boom Boom”, “Bon Bon”, and “Pang Bang” sauce at several other restaurants.

It’s very similar and OH SO YUMMY!

I made some Coconut Shrimp with Malibu Rum Sauce a few weeks ago using this same method.

Coconut Shrimp with Malibu Rum Sauce

Start with shrimp that has been peeled and deveined already.

Pat the shrimp dry, dip in egg mixed with soy sauce, coat with panko, and into the air fryer basket.

Press the panko into the shrimp slightly to get it to stick.

Set the air fryer for 10 minutes at 400 degrees and they come out crispity crunchity 🙂

While the shrimp cooked I made the sauce for the Air Fryer Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos.

I mixed mayo, sweet Thai Chili sauce, and Sriracha.

I’m pretty sure my version has more chili sauce and Sriracha than most recipes.

If yours comes out too spicy just add more mayo to even it out.

Assemble the tacos when everything is ready.

Some shredded red cabbage, cilantro, and green onion along with the shrimp and sauce is all I used.

I wanted to keep it simple 🙂

A trick I love when serving tortillas is putting them in a skillet over medium heat for a few seconds per side to warm them up.

When ready to devour these gorgeous tacos, drizzle LOTS of the Bang Bang Sauce over top.

I seriously kept piling it on it’s so yummy 🙂

Ingredients

  • 1 pound medium size shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
  • olive oil spray
  • 1/2 cup mayo (or light mayo)
  • 1/3 cup sweet Thai chili sauce
  • 2 Tbsps Sriracha (or more if you like it spicy)
  • 6 fajita size soft tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded red cabbage (or lettuce)
  • 1 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 cup sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels.

  2. In a bowl whisk together the eggs and soy sauce. Pour the panko bread crumbs in another bowl. Put each shrimp in the egg mixture and then into the panko, pressing the bread crumbs into the shrimp. Place the shrimp in the air fryer basket in a single layer, repeat with remaining shrimp. (Shrimp could also be placed on a lined baking sheet and baked in a 400 degree oven for 10 minutes)

Note: Depending on size of air fryer this may need to be done in 2 batches.

  3. Spray the shrimp lightly with olive oil spray. Set the air fryer to 400 degrees for 10 minutes.

  4. While the shrimp cook, combine the mayo, sweet Thai chili sauce, and Sriracha to make the Bang Bang sauce. Set aside.

  5. In a skillet over medium heat, place each tortilla in the pan for 30 seconds on each side to warm them.

  6. On each tortilla add some shredded cabbage, cilantro, green onions, and shrimp. Drizzle the Bang Bang sauce over top.
