Air Fryer Lava Cakes

Air Fryer Lava Cakes are a yummy, chocolatey ooey gooey air fryer dessert recipe sure to make you smile a big ole smile!

So good served with vanilla ice cream over top!

A few simple ingredients and a few minutes in the air fryer and you’ll be in dessert heaven.

How to make Air Fryer Lava Cakes

You can use any dark chocolate that you like, I used some individually wrapped Dove chocolate pieces.

A stick of butter, flour, powdered sugar, eggs, and vanilla are the other ingredients needed.

Simple enough so far, right?!

lava cake ingredients

First unwrap 16 of the chocolate squares, or use 4 ounces of your favorite dark chocolate.

Then add a stick of butter and the chocolate to a bowl.

Microwave for a minute and then stir until melted and combined.

Then add 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, half cup flour, and a teaspoon of vanilla.

Next crack two of the eggs into the bowl, and add the yolk from the third egg but not the white.

Mix until combined.

Then spray four ramekins or small glass bowls with nonstick spray.

And divide the batter evenly.

Then set the air fryer to 400 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes.

Let the cakes cool slightly.

Then carefully turn each upside down onto a plate.

Use a towel because the bowls will be hot.

This next step is important if you want the cakes to stay together… leave the bowls upside down on the plates for a few minutes.

Then carefully remove the bowls.

But hey, even if the cakes fall apart this dessert will still be scrumptious!

Sprinkle some powdered sugar over top and serve with vanilla ice cream if desired.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces dark chocolate (I used 16 individually wrapped Dove chocolates)
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • nonstick cooking spray
  • Optional: powdered sugar, vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. Put the chocolate and butter in a large to medium size bowl. Microwave for 1 minute, stir until the butter and chocolate are melted and combined.

  2. Add the powdered sugar, flour, 2 of the eggs plus just the yolk from the third egg, and the vanilla. Stir until combined.

  3. Spray 4 ramekins or small oven/air fryer safe glass bowls with nonstick spray. Divide the batter evenly between the 4 bowls.

  4. Place the bowls in the air fryer at 400 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes. Let them cool for a few minutes then carefully turn them upside down on a plate (use a towel as the bowls will be hot).

  5. Leave them upside down on the plates for a few minutes, then carefully remove the bowls. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with vanilla ice cream if desired.

Note: Using plenty of nonstick spray and allowing the time with the bowls upside down on the plate will prevent them from falling apart once the bowl is removed… but even if they do fall part, they will still be yummy 😉
