Slow Cooker Pork Ribs

Slow Cooker Pork Ribs

You’ve got LOTS of options for seasonings and sauces for these easy to make slow cooker pork ribs recipe!

For sure you could go with the traditional BBQ seasoning and BBQ sauce… and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Or you could think outside of the box and use any seasoning blend of choice.

And for the sauce you could mix it up with some teriyaki sauce, General Tso sauce, Korean glaze, or check out any of the other store bought sauces in your grocery store.

I had a jar of salted vodka rib sauce that my daughter got me for Christmas and it was definitely a nice change of pace compared to a regular BBQ sauce.

How to make slow cooker pork ribs

Whatever type of seasoning or sauce you decide on, the way we are cooking the ribs in the slow cooker is the same.

Start with two racks of pork ribs, I had some pork spare ribs.

Two racks of ribs still in the package

First pat the ribs dry and cut them in half to make them easier to fit in the crockpot.

And get out any seasoning that you would like to put on your ribs.

I went with the mixture of garlic powder, BBQ seasoning, and Cajun seasoning.

Two racks of ribs cut in half before seasoning

Season the ribs well on both sides and rub in slightly.

Both my BBQ and Cajun seasoning had a good amount of salt so I did not feel the need to add any extra salt.

Then turn the ribs up on their side and place in the slow cooker.

Set your slow cooker to low for 6 to 8 hours.

This is what you’ll see after 6 to 8 hours.

As you can tell by looking at them, they’re practically falling off the bone right here in the slow cooker.

I did not add any liquid to my crockpot, the liquid you see is just from the pork ribs.

Use some tongs to very carefully transfer the ribs from the crock pot to a baking sheet.

Next put some of your sauce on the ribs.

And use the back of a spoon to evenly spread the sauce over the ribs.

These ribs will go into your oven set to broil for a few minutes.

Just keep an eye on them and remove once the sauce is bubbly and slightly caramelized.

Slow Cooker Pork Ribs

We garnished our slow cooker pork ribs with sesame seeds and green onions to make them even prettier!

Our ribs were so tender that we were able to remove the bones before even cutting into the ribs.

So moist and delicious and with really very little effort.

And flavor combinations are endless with the wide variety of store bought seasonings and sauces, or keep it traditional and stick with BBQ.

Ingredients

  • 2 racks pork ribs/ spareribs
  • BBQ seasoning or seasoning blend of choice (I used a mix of BBQ seasoning, Cajun seasoning, and garlic powder)
  • kosher salt, pepper
  • BBQ sauce or rib sauce of choice (I used a store bought Salted Vodka rib sauce)
  • Optional: sesame seeds or green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pat the ribs dry with paper towels and cut each of the two racks in half. Season both sides with your BBQ seasoning or seasoning blend of choice, kosher salt, and pepper.

Note: If your seasoning blend has enough salt, the extra kosher salt may or may not be needed.

  2. Place the ribs on their sides in the slow cooker and turn on low for 6 to 8 hours.

  3. Carefully remove the ribs and place on a baking sheet, I had the best luck using tongs. The ribs are very fall off the bone tender so be gentle.

  4. Spread your favorite BBQ sauce or rib sauce of choice on the ribs and place in the oven with the broiler on high for a few minutes. Keep an eye on them and remove once the sauce starts to bubble and caramelize slightly.

  5. Serve with sesame seeds or green onions as garnish if desired.
