Air Fryer Hasselback Sweet Potatoes
I made a recipe for Air Fryer Cheesy Hasselback Potatoes last week, so I had to give Air Fryer Hasselback Sweet Potatoes a try.
My family prefers regular potatoes, but I am quite the sucker for sweet potatoes.
Although the cheesiness of the other potato cannot be matched… the sweet kiss of cinnamon and the crispy skin had me preferring these 🙂
Oh, and that brown sugar crumble over top was pretty amazing.
How to Make Air Fryer Hasselback Sweet Potatoes
To begin, you’ll need two sweet potatoes, butter, cumin, cinnamon, a very good quality sharp knife, and two chopsticks.
First, cut the bottom of each sweet potato off.
This will create a flat bottom and also will be used to sit them on in the air fryer (stay tuned for that).
Then place the sweet potato between the chopsticks.
Carefully hold it in place and cut about 1/4 inch slices all the way to the chopsticks.
The chopsticks will prevent you from slicing all the way through.
Melt some butter and add in cinnamon, cumin, kosher salt, and pepper.
Place the potatoes in the air fryer on top of that little slice we cut from the bottom.
This will help them fan out slightly to expose the slices.
Brush half of the butter mixture over the sweet potatoes.
And gently separate the slices so the butter gets in between.
Sprinkle more kosher and and pepper over top.
Then set the air fryer to 370 degrees for 20 minutes to start.
After 20 minutes, brush the rest of the butter over top and in between the slices.
See how the slices of potato underneath have helped the potatoes to fan out slightly?
Set the air fryer to 370 for another 20 to 25 minutes.
Almost ready!
Sprinkle some brown sugar over top of each sweet potato.
And spray some non stick spray over top.
This will help the brown sugar stay in place and kind of melt into the top of the potatoes.
Air Fryer Hasselback Sweet Potatoes were such a great and unique side dish!
We had Cajun Salmon and Asparagus for dinner and each of us had half of a sweet potato as our side.
YUM!

Air Fryer Hasselback Sweet Potatoes
Air Fryer Hasselback Sweet Potatoes are sliced almost through and brush with cinnamon butter, cooked in the air fryer with a sweet topping
Ingredients
- 2 sweet potatoes
- 4 Tbsps melted butter
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- kosher salt, pepper
- 2 Tbsps brown sugar
- non stick spray
Instructions
-
Cut a slice from the bottom of the sweet potatoes to make the bottom flat.
-
Place the potatoes, cut side down, between 2 chopsticks and use a sharp knife to cut the potatoes into 1/4 inch slices. The chopsticks will prevent cutting all the way through.
-
Place the slice of sweet potato that was cut from the bottom in the air fryer basket, cut side down. And put the potatoes over each slice (the rounded slice underneath with help open the slices on the potatoes).
Note: Picture example in post above.
-
Mix together the melted butter, cinnamon, cumin, kosher salt, and pepper. Gently separate the slices on the sweet potatoes and brush the butter over top, trying to get between the potato slices.
-
Sprinkle more kosher salt and pepper over each potato. Set the air fryer to 370 degrees for 20 minutes.
-
Brush the remaining butter over top and cook an additional 20 to 25 minutes in the air fryer at 370 degrees.
-
Sprinkle the brown sugar over top of the sweet potatoes, spray lightly with non stick spray, and put back in the air fryer for a minute or two.
