Smoked Nashville Hot Chicken

Smoked Nashville Hot Chicken

Smoked Nashville Hot Chicken has a sweet and spicy flavor that turns a regular, plain chicken recipe into something extraordinary.

Smoking a whole chicken in general is just awesome!

You can shred it and keep in the fridge for days and use for tacos, nachos, or even just a little snack here and there.

I made this at the same times as Pomegranate Molasses BBQ Ribs to use the whole cooking space in my smoker.

And the seasoning for both I got at Savory Spice.

The Nashville Hot seasoning is perfect, plus they have lots of sauces, spice blends, and gift options.

How to Make Smoked Nashville Hot Chicken

This is a 6 pound whole chicken and all I did to start was pat it dry. This helps for the seasoning to stick.

Then mix together melted butter, honey, the Nashville Hot seasoning, kosher salt, and pepper.

Brush the butter mixture over the chicken.

And, for extra flavor, separate the skin between the chicken breast and pour some of the mixture between the breast and skin.

Then season the chicken with more of the Nashville Hot seasoning.

Put the chicken on a smoker set to 225 degrees for 4 to 5 hours.

It can also be cooked in a baking dish in the oven at 400 degrees for an hour.

chicken on the smoker before cooking

The biggest thing with smoking or cooking meat is not the actual time, it’s the temperature.

So many factors such as size of the chicken and ability to regulate the temperature of the smoker can affect when it’s done.

Use an instant read thermometer during the last few hours and remove the chicken once it’s at 170 degrees.
