BBQ Pork Smashed Burgers
This time around, kids…I am making a recipe for BBQ Pork Smashed Burgers on the flat top grill/ griddle 🙂
What to do with leftover BBQ pulled pork always seems to be a dilemma each summer.
We always make at least one or two big pork shoulders each summer and love having the leftovers.
I mean, is there really anything wrong with pairing ground beef with pork AND cheese?!
Seems like an excellent cheat day meal to me!
How to make BBQ Pork Smashed Burgers
Smashed burgers are basically burgers cooked on a screaming hot flat top grill or cast iron skillet.
Roll the ground beef into balls and place on an oiled flat top.
Then SMASH them very, very flat with a grill press.
Sprinkle with salt and pepper too.
Cook three minutes and flip.
See that gorgeous golden brown crust… that’s what you want to see.
Next top with the leftover pulled pork that’s been tossed in BBQ sauce.
.
And also a slice of cheese. I used colby jack, but any favorite cheese you have would be delicious.
Cook three more minutes and the cheese will be ooey gooey melted to perfection.
Throw the buns on the flat top as well for just a few seconds if you prefer a toasty bun.
All that’s left to do now is devour your BBQ Pork Smashed Burger!
It’s a messy job, but someone’s gotta do it 😉
Add more BBQ sauce if you like, or any other toppings such as lettuce, pickle, whatever you like.

BBQ Pork Smashed Burgers
BBQ Pork Smashed Burgers start with a regular smashed burger on a flat top grill and topped with leftover BBQ pork and melty cheese!
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 Tbsp canola oil (or another oil with a high smoke point)
- kosher salt, pepper
- 1 1/2 cups leftover BBQ pulled pork (mine had BBQ sauce mixed in)
- 4 slices colby jack cheese
- 4 burger buns
- Optional toppings: BBQ sauce, lettuce, pickles, etc.
Instructions
-
Divide the ground beef into four equal portions and roll each into a ball.
-
Heat the flat top griddle over medium high heat for a few minutes (or could use a cast iron skillet). Spread the oil evenly and place the balls of ground beef on the flat top.
-
Press each down to a very thin patty with a heavy spatula or grill press. Sprinkle with kosher salt and pepper. Cook 3 minutes and flip.
-
As soon as you flip the burgers, top each with the leftover BBQ pulled pork and a slice of colby jack. Cook 3 more minutes or until cheese is melted.
Optional: Place the buns cut side down on the flat top for a few seconds to toast them if desired.
-
Place each burger on a burger bun and add additional toppings of choice.

This looks amazing. I too seem to have left over pulled pork that I didn’t know what to do with, but now I do. Can not wait to try this!
