Wonton Cheese Bites
These Wonton Cheese Bites came to me as an easy recipe idea when I had a few leftover wonton wrappers to use up.
Last weekend I made Crab Rangoons at the request of my daughter, and we didn’t use all of the wontons wrappers.
In searching for ideas in my pantry and fridge I stumbled upon some string cheese.
Instantly I thought cheesy goodness wrapped in wontons and fried was a genius idea!
How to make Wonton Cheese Bites
Because these wonton wrappers are smaller than regular egg roll wrappers, cut each string cheese into three equal pieces.
Lay a piece of the cheese in the center of a wonton wrapper.
Then, dip your finger in water and trace the edges.
This will help seal the wrapper so no oil gets in.
Fold the sides in over the cheese like this…
Next, roll the top corner over the cheese…
Finally, roll it up like a cute adorable little egg roll.
And repeat with the remaining Wonton Cheese Bites.
To fry these up to crispy golden brown perfection, fill a small pan or skillet about 1 inch deep with vegetable oil.
Turn the heat to medium and check the temperature after about 5 minutes.
Once the temperature is around 350 degrees they are ready to be fried.
They only take about a minute per side.
When you remove them from the oil place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Also sprinkle with parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning right away.
Serve these yummy, cheesy Wonton Cheese Bites of deliciousness with your favorite pizza or marinara sauce for dipping.
They are best served right away when they are nice and hot.

Wonton Cheese Bites
Cheese bites fried to crispy perfection in wonton wrappers
Ingredients
- 5 mozzarella string cheese sticks
- 15 wonton wrappers
- 1/4 cup water
- vegetable oil for frying (enough to fill a small saucepan or skillet 1 inch deep)
- 1 Tbsp grated parmesan cheese
- 1/2 Tbsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 cup pizza or marinara sauce
Instructions

Cut each string cheese into three equal pieces.

Lay a wonton flat with a corner facing you. Place a piece of the string cheese in the center.

Dip your finger in the water and trace the edges of the wonton wrapper. Fold the sides in over the cheese. Roll the front corner over the cheese and roll until sealed (picture examples in post above). Repeat with remaining cheese bites.

Fill a small pan or skillet 1 inch deep with vegetable oil over medium heat. Wait about 4-5 minutes and check the temperature with an instant read thermometer. When the temperature is around 350 degrees gently place 5 to 6 cheese bites. Fry 1 minute per side.

Remove from oil and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Sprinkle right away with parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning.

Serve with pizza sauce or marinara sauce for dipping.
