Just say those words again…Maple Bourbon Candied Bacon…now pinch yourself.
It’s real, this is really a thing!
I think the secret to making candied bacon is to get it sliced thick from the deli so it’s all the same thickness.
I have made it before with packaged bacon and some spots are burnt while other spots are underdone.
How to Make Maple Bourbon Candied Bacon
This is 2 pounds of peppered thick but bacon, and yes, this is a beautiful thing right here 🙂
I whisked together some brown sugar, pure maple syrup, and bourbon.
I cut the bacon slices into thirds and tossed them into the glaze.
Then I placed them on a lined baking sheet on a wire rack.
Helpful hint is to spray the wire baking rack with nonstick cooking spray to prevent the candied bacon from sticking.

Bake them at 375 for 18 minutes, flip them, and brush with the remaining maple bourbon glaze.
My husband and I tested and tested this recipe, and the 18 minutes per side seemed to be the perfect amount of time for the thick cut bacon.
It may be a different cook time depending on the thickness of your bacon.
He’s always willing to help me test taste things like Maple Bourbon Candied Bacon 😉
Place them back in the 375 degree oven for 18 more minutes.
Keep in mind they will harden slightly once they come to room temperature.
Of course all ovens are a little different and the thickness may be slightly different, so just keep a close watch so it doesn’t burn.
I brought these to our family Christmas party, and they were a HUGE hit!

Maple Bourbon Candied Bacon
Candied bacon with a maple bourbon glaze
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2/3 cup pure maple syrup
- 1/4 cup bourbon
- 2 pounds thick cut pepper bacon
In a bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, maple syrup, and bourbon.
Cut the bacon strips into thirds. Add the bacon to the maple bourbon mixture and toss until evenly coated.
Place the bacon strips on a lined baking sheet with a wire rack that has been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.
Place in a 375 degree oven for 18 minutes, flip them, and brush will the remaining maple bourbon glaze. Place back into oven for 18 more minutes. (cook time will be less if you are not using very thick cut bacon)
Note: The bacon will harden as it comes to room temp.
