Traeger Grilled Steak with Balsamic Mushrooms
On our patio currently we have a propane grill, a propane smoker, a charcoal smoker, and now a brand new Traeger grill/smoker. Which is what we used to make this Traeger Grilled Steak recipe.
I’m fairly certain my husband is addicted to grills and smokers.
Honestly I had never heard of a Traeger but he has been wanting one for years.
They are pricey, but after having this steak I am a huge fan and worth the money.
Sadly he bought it literally the day before we left for our family vacation.
He was dying to use it all week!
So after driving for 10 hours we made this dish right when we got home after a quick stop to the butcher shop.
After eating out on vacation all week, a home cooked meal is exactly what we all needed.
Not too much thought went into this meal.
I walked into the butcher shop by our house and saw New York Strips and mushrooms…dinner planned.
How to Make Traeger Grilled Steak with Balsamic Mushrooms…
When I got home and he was preheating his brand new beloved Traeger I thought to add balsamic to the mushrooms, plus I already had an onion and garlic so why not add those as well.
I season steak very simply, because…well…it’s steak and it doesn’t need much more than a little olive oil, kosher salt, and pepper.
The mushrooms were already sliced, so I sliced the onion very thinly and minced 2 cloves of garlic.
I usually cook over medium heat, but I wanted these mushrooms and onions to cook low and slow.
In a skillet over medium low heat I drizzled some olive oil and added the mushrooms, onions, kosher salt, and pepper.
After cooking for 8 minutes add some balsamic and sugar along with the garlic.
Cook an additional 8 minutes until they are golden brown.
I grow fresh thyme so I did add some of that as well.
While all this mushroom and onions business was happening in the kitchen, my husband finally got to use his Traeger pellet grill.
What better way to use it for the first time than with these gorgeous New York Stips?!
We tried 350 degrees for the first time and timed 7 minutes per side for a perfect medium temperature.
.
The wood pellets in the Traeger gave this steak an amazing smoky flavor and it paired perfectly with the sweet balsamic mushrooms and onions.
For a last minute dinner this was pretty darn awesome, and super easy!
If I had more time I for sure would have made Cheesy Smashed Potatoes to go with our Traeger grilled steak!
