Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce

When your kids are split between regular spaghetti and fettuccine alfredo, you combine the best of both worlds and make Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce!

Such an easy dinner recipe that everyone is sure to rave about.

Pretty much a 6 ingredient recipe if you don’t count the seasonings.

How to make Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce

First set a large pot over medium heat and add olive oil, a diced onion, kosher salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes.

Cook this for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring a few times.

Add some minced garlic and cook another minute.

My grandson LOVES to help me cook, so he was an amazing helper adding a pint of heavy cream.

Bring the cream to a boil and reduce the heat to medium low.

Cook for about 5 minutes as it bubbles and reduces, stirring a few times.

Then stir in a cup of shredded parmesan cheese.

And a 24-ounce jar of marinara sauce.

And a tablespoon of Italian seasoning.

Stir until combined, raise the heat until it bubbles, and then back to medium low for another 5 minutes.

Taste for seasoning and add in kosher salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes as needed.

Boil a pound of pasta according to package directions, we went with angel hair.

Save 1/4 cup of the pasta water, drain the pasta, and add it to the sauce along with the pasta water.

Use tongs to combine.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion diced
  • kosher salt, pepper, crushed red pepper flakes
  • 8 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 pint heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • 1 24-ounce jar marinara sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 pound pasta of choice boiled according to package directions
  • 1/4 cup water from boiling the pasta

Instructions

  1. Set a large pot over medium heat. Add olive oil, onion, kosher salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes. Cook 4 to 5 minutes, stirring a few times.

  2. Add garlic, cook another minute and pour in the heavy cream. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium low and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring a few times. Stir in the parmesan cheese during the last minute.

  3. Pour in the marinara sauce, add Italian seasoning, raise heat to high until it bubbles, turn heat back to medium low and and let cook another 5 minutes. Taste for seasoning and add kosher salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes as needed.

  4. Save 1/4 cup of water from the boiling pot of pasta right before draining. Add cooked pasta of choice to the sauce along with the pasta water and toss with tongs until combined.
