Air Fryer Steak and Potatoes

Air Fryer Steak and Potatoes

Air fryer steak and potatoes is a complete, easy, and tasty recipe all cooked in the air fryer!

This is a restaurant quality meal that serves 2, as long as you split the steak.

Mine was a pretty large 14 oz New York strip and this dinner was easily split between my son and husband.

But hey, if you have a more hearty appetite you can always call this a meal for one đŸ˜‰

How to make air fryer steak and potatoes

First drizzle the steak with olive oil and season with kosher salt, pepper, and any steak seasoning blend of choice that you like.

Then make a garlic herb butter by combining 4 tablespoons of softened butter with finely minced garlic, any fresh herb of choice, more kosher salt, pepper, and steak seasoning.

If you don’t have fresh herbs you can easily leave that out or go with a dried herb of choice.

I had some fresh chives so I thought why not use those.

Add most of the butter to 3/4 pound of red potatoes that have been cut into bite sized pieces.

Steak and Potato ingredients

Toss the potatoes until evenly combined and add a little more kosher salt and pepper.

Set the remaining garlic herb butter aside to put on the steak over top after it’s been cooked.

Seasoned potatoes in a bowl before putting in the air fryer

The potatoes have a longer cook time than the steak, so we will start the potatoes first.

Set the air fryer to 400 degrees for just about 8 minutes with the potatoes in a single layer.

At this point the potatoes are just about halfway cooked.

Just move them around the air fryer basket to make room for the steak.

Partially cooked potatoes in the air fryer before adding the steak

Place the seasoned steak in the air fryer basket nestled around the potatoes.

Then set the air fryer to 400 degrees for another 6 to 9 minutes, depending on how you like your steak cooked.

I removed mine right around the seven minute mark when the internal temperature of my steak was 135 degrees because we like ours medium rare.

Place the remaining garlic herb butter over air fryer steak and potatoes is it rests!

The garlic herb butter will slowly melt over the steak making it even more flavorful.

Ingredients

  • 1 New York Strip or Ribeye (mine was 14 oz)
  • olive oil, kosher salt, pepper, steak seasoning blend of choice
  • 4 tablespoons butter softened, at room temp
  • 4 cloves finely minced garlic
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon fresh herb of choice such as rosemary, thyme, or chives (I used chives) chopped
  • 3/4 pound petite red potatoes cut into bite size pieces

Instructions

  1. Drizzle olive oil on both sides of the steak and season with kosher salt, pepper, and steak seasoning blend of choice.

  2. Put the softened butter in a small bowl along with the garlic, fresh herb of choice if using, kosher salt, pepper, and steak seasoning blend of choice. Stir until evenly combined.

  3. Save one tablespoon of the garlic herb butter and toss the rest of the butter with the cut potatoes until evenly combined. Season the potatoes with more kosher salt and pepper.

  4. Place the potatoes in a single layer in the air fryer basket and cook them at 400 degrees for 8 minutes.

  5. Move the potatoes in the air fryer to make room for the steak, place the steak in the air fryer basket next to the potatoes and cook at 400 degrees for 6 to 9 minutes depending on how you would like your steak cooked.

Note: I used an instant read thermometer and stopped cooking my steak around the 7 minute mark once it was at 135 degrees for medium rare.

  6. Let the steak and potatoes rest for a few minutes. Put the reserved tablespoon of garlic herb butter over the steak to slowly melt over top as it rests.
