Pizza Roll Casserole
We were all glad that I’m a food weirdo because this easy, kid friendly recipe for Pizza Roll Casserole is pretty incredible.
When my daughter’s boyfriend mentioned how much he loved pizza rolls my mind instantly thought about what new creation to make with the flavors and ingredients in pizza rolls.
Why?
Who knows…but I am glad it did.
So, pizza roll ingredients are pretty simple.
Pepperoni, ground sausage, cheese, pizza sauce of course, but the crust part of it had me stumped at first.
Then I thought of a Mexican Lasagna I made with flour tortillas and so I went with that.

Here’s how to make Pizza Roll Casserole
First set a skillet over medium heat and cook the sausage for about 5 minutes, breaking it apart as it cooks.
Then add in minced garlic and cook 1 more minute.

And add two 14 ounce jars of pizza sauce.
To make sure you get all the sauce out of the jar, add a bit of water into each empty jar.
And shake with the lid on and pour the rest into the skillet.
Stir this until evenly mixed and we are ready to layer this casserole 🙂

Grease the bottom of a 9×13 casserole dish and spread some of the pizza sauce/ sausage mixture.
This will prevent sticking.

Cut three large flour tortillas in half and cut another one into fourths.
Lay two halves in the center with the flat edge touching the dish.

Then finish that first layer by adding two of the fourths to fill in the gaps at each end.

Spread a third of the pizza sauce/ sausage and a layer of pepperoni.
Then a cup of shredded mozzarella over top.

Repeat with another layer and then top it off with the two remaining halves.
I chose to not fill in the gap on the top layer.

Add the remaining pizza sauce/ sausage and bake in a 375 degree oven for 30 minutes.

Finally add the remaining two cups of mozzarella cheese and more pepperoni and bake 10 more minutes.

Let your Pizza Roll Casserole sit for about 10 minutes before serving.

You could also sprinkle some Italian seasoning over top for a little extra flavor, plus it looks pretty 🙂
Ooey gooey cheesy pizza roll yumminess!

Needless to say my daughter’s wonderful boyfriend appreciated this dish and we all absolutely LOVED it!

Pizza Roll Casserole
Pizza Roll Casserole is everything yummy about pizza rolls but served as a cheesy and delicious casserole
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground Italian sausage
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 2 14 oz jars pizza sauce
- 1/4 cup water
- 4 large, burrito size flour tortillas
- 4 oz pepperoni slices
- 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Optional: Italian seasoning
Instructions
-
Set a skillet over medium heat and add the ground Italian sausage. Cook 5 minutes, breaking it apart as it cooks. Add the garlic and cook 1 more minute.
-
Add the jars of pizza sauce to the skillet with the sausage. Pour the water into the empty jars of pizza sauce and shake, then pour into the skillet. Stir until evenly mixed.
-
Pour a spoonful of the sausage and pizza sauce mixture into a greased 9×13 casserole dish and spread evenly (this will prevent the tortilla from sticking).

Cut three of the tortilla in half, and cut the other tortilla into fourths. Place two halves in the casserole dish, straight sides touching the dish. And place two fourths to cover the gaps, again straight side touching the dish. (picture examples in post above)
-
Spread a third of the sausage and pizza sauce, a layer of pepperoni, and a cup of the cheese. Repeat another layer and then top that off with the two remaining tortilla halves. Spread the remaining sausage and pizza sauce and bake in a 375 degree oven for 30 minutes.
-
Sprinkle the remaining cheese and a few more pepperoni slices over top and bake 10 more minutes. Sprinkle the top with Italian seasoning if desired.
