Sweet and Spicy Peanut Chicken Wings

Sweet and Spicy Peanut Chicken Wings

This is a very simple recipe for Sweet and Spicy Peanut Chicken Wings.

Some days I do love to go all out make sauces from scratch…but most days I want something quick and easy.

Enjoying time with my family won today over spending time whipping up a fancy sauce.

I am pretty good at keeping a variety of store bought sauces on hand just for that reason.

So I actually had all three (yes only three) sauces in my fridge.

How to make Sweet and Spicy Peanut Chicken Wings

Equal parts of sweet Thai chili sauce and peanut sauce, plus some Sriracha get whisked together and that’s it!

You can find all three in the Asian section of your grocery store.

Any time I make wings, I either bake or smoke them.

On this day I went with smoking them.

It’s mid winter and smoked wings take me back to summer, when I pretty much grill or smoke everything 🙂

This sauce is so flavorful that I kept the wings very simple…some olive oil, kosher salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes.

These wings will smoke for two and a half hours total, flipping them halfway through.

And during the last half hour brush them a few times with the sweet and spicy peanut sauce.

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds jumbo split chicken wings
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • kosher salt, pepper, crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 cup peanut sauce (in Asian section of grocery store)
  • 1/2 cup sweet Thai chili sauce (in Asian section of grocery store)
  • 1 to 2 Tbsps Sriracha (more or less depending on spice preference)
  • Optional: chopped cilantro or crushed peanuts

Instructions

  1. Pat the wings dry with paper towels, place them in a large bowl. Add the olive oil, kosher salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes and toss until evenly mixed.

  2. In a small bowl whisk together the peanut sauce, sweet Thai chili sauce, and Sriracha. Set aside.

  3. Smoke or bake the chicken wings:

In the smoker: Place the chicken wings in a smoker set to 250 degrees for two and a half hours. Flip them halfway through. Brush with sweet and spicy peanut sauce during the last half hour of cooking. Check the internal temp to make sure they are at 170 degrees before serving.

In the oven: Place wings on a lined baking sheet and put in a 400 degree oven for 45 minutes, flip them halfway through. Brush with sweet and spicy peanut sauce during the last 15 minutes of cooking.

  4. Serve with remaining sweet and spicy peanut sauce and garnish with cilantro and/or crushed peanuts if desired.
