Cherry Jalapeno Pig Shots

Cherry Jalapeno Pig Shots

A sweet and spicy bacon wrapped appetizer that’s fun to make is what I am sharing today, friends… Cherry Jalapeno Pig Shots are anything but typical!

You’ll feel extra proud when carrying these into any party, holiday, or celebration.

Or just make them for yourself for a fun snacky snack dinner or extra special treat.

Pig shots get their name because they resemble a shot glass made of pork, filled with any yumminess your heart desires.

How to make Cherry Jalapeno Pig Shots

Everything you need is shown below.

The ingredient list isn’t long or complicated, but the flavors are incredible!

The secret weapon here is a good quality jar of cherry preserves.

cherry preserves

First put a cup of cherry preserves in a small saucepan.

Then add a diced jalapeno, balsamic vinegar, kosher salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes.

Bring this to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium low and simmer for 5 minutes.

While the cherry filling cools you can make the pig shots.

Slice a pound of smoked sausage and cut some thick cut bacon in half.

Then wrap each half bacon slice around the sausages, and secure in place with a toothpick.

The bacon will overlap slightly and that’s where you want to put the toothpick.

See, a little pork shot glass just like I promised 🙂

You should get around 20 to 24 total.

Once the filling is cooled, add it to a bowl with a block of cream cheese.

Then use a hand mixer to blend this for about a minute.

And fill each pig shot with the sweet, spicy, creamy mixture.

If you have any filling left, it’s SO good on a cracker!

Kind of like a little appetizer before your appetizer 😉

I am cooking these on my Traeger pellet grill/ smoker.

Set the pellet grill to 350 degrees and place the pig shots on the grill grate for 45 minutes to an hour.

Or make them in the oven… place on a wire baking rack over a baking sheet.

Then bake in a 350 degree oven for 45 minutes to an hour.

Cherry Jalapeno Pig Shots taste even more amazing than they look!

Which is really saying something because they are STUNNING!

They are great served warm or at room temperature.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cherry preserves
  • 1 jalapeno seeds removed, finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • kosher salt, pepper, crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 8 ounce block cream cheese at room temp
  • 1 pound smoked sausage cut in half inch slices
  • 10 to 12 slices thick cut bacon cut in half
  • 20 to 24 toothpicks

Instructions

  1. Put the cherry preserves in a small saucepan and add the diced jalapeno, balsamic vinegar, kosher salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes.

  2. Bring this mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium low and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring a few times. Let cool.

  3. Wrap each half piece of bacon around each sausage slice, attempting to make each look like a shot glass with the sausage as the bottom. Put a toothpick through where the bacon overlaps, through the bacon and into the sausage.

Note: If a piece of bacon is too short to make it overlap around the sausage, stretch it or roll it slightly thinner.

  4. Put the cooled cherry mixture in a bowl along with the cream cheese. Use a hand mixer to blend together for a minute. Fill each pig shot with this mixture.

  5. Set your pellet grill to 350 degrees and place the pig shots on the grate for 45 minutes to 1 hour (keep an eye on them and remove when the bacon is done to your liking).

Note: These can also be baked in a 350 degree oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour on a wire baking rack over a baking sheet.
