Air Fryer Pineapple Pig Shots

Air Fryer Pineapple Pig Shots

Usually I make pig shots in the smoker or pellet grill, but I decided to give Air Fryer Pineapple Pig Shots a try.

They cook in less time, and SOOOO much easier than doing them on the smoker or pellet grill.

You don’t get that smoky flavor, of course… but for a quicker way to enjoy pig shots, give the air fryer method a go.

How to make Air Fryer Pineapple Pig Shots

For any pig shot recipe, you’ll need smoked sausage and thick cut bacon.

Then the filling is up to you… I went with a mix of cream cheese, Cool Whip, BBQ seasoning and crushed pineapple.

And topped with a maraschino cherry!

pig shot ingredients

First put an 8 ounce block of cream cheese, some Cool Whip, and BBQ seasoning in a bowl.

Then mix until combined, I used a hand mixer for about a minute.

This works best if the cream cheese is at room temperature and the Cool Whip has been thawed.

To make the actual pig shots, slice a pound of smoked sausage into circles.

And slice some thick cut bacon in half.

Next wrap each half slice of bacon around each slice of sausage.

And secure with a toothpick through where the bacon overlaps and into the sausage.

Creating a “shot glass” that is just waiting to be filled!

Then spoon some crushed pineapple over top.

Finally a sprinkle of BBQ seasoning and place them in the air fryer basket.

Depending on the size of your air fryer, this may need to be done in two smaller batches.

Set the air fryer to 380 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.

Top the Air Fryer Pineapple Pig Shots with a maraschino cherry during the last few minutes of cooking 🙂

I accidently overfilled some of them, maybe I was a bit too excited!

So a few did overflow a bit in the air fryer as they cooked.

No worries though, I just scooped the filling right back in.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound smoked sausage
  • 1 pound thick cut bacon
  • 20 toothpicks
  • 8 ounces cream cheese at room temperature
  • 4 ounces Cool Whip thawed
  • BBQ seasoning (I used Honey Hog)
  • 1 8 ounce can crushed pineapple
  • 10 maraschino cherries (optional) cut in half

Instructions

  1. Slice the smoked sausage (about half inch thick) and cut the bacon in half.

  2. Wrap each piece of bacon around each sausage slice, attempting to make each look like a shot glass with the sausage as the bottom. Put a toothpick through where the bacon overlaps, through the bacon and into the sausage.

Note: If a piece of bacon is too short to make it overlap around the sausage, stretch it or roll it slightly thinner.

  3. Put the cream cheese, Cool Whip, and a few shakes of BBQ seasoning in a bowl. Mix together with a spoon or hand mixer until combined.

  4. Fill each pig shot 3/4 full with the filling, add some crushed pineapple to top each one off, and sprinkle more BBQ seasoning over the pig shots.

Note: Should make approximately 20 to 25 pig shots, overfilled pig shots may overflow during cooking.

  5. Put the pig shots in the air fryer basket. Set the air fryer to 380 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. Add the half cherry (if using) on top of each one during the last few minutes of cooking.

Note: Depending on the size of your air fryer this may need to be cooked in 2 smaller batches.
