Philly Cheesesteak Pasta

Philly Cheesesteak Pasta

Philly Cheesesteak Pasta was actually the genius recipe idea of my husband, so I can only take credit here for making his dream dinner dish come true.

I mean…steak and veggies swimming in a cheesy, creamy, decadent pasta sauce has to be one of his BEST ideas ever!

Plus this amazing comfort food meal is all made in ONE pot for easy cleanup.

Ingredients for the pasta dish

How to make Philly Cheesesteak Pasta

First boil a pound of pasta according to the package directions in salted water.

You could use any pasta that you prefer, I went with fettuccine because it is my son’s favorite.

Then slice the peppers, onions, and mushrooms and cube 1 1/2 pounds of steak.

Once the pasta is cooked, strain it in a colander and rinse very well with cold water.

This will prevent the pasta from overcooking and becoming mushy while we make the rest of this dish.

Set the same pot that you boiled the pasta in on the stove over medium high heat.

Then add some olive oil, the cubed steak, kosher salt, pepper, and a steak seasoning blend of choice.

Cook the steak for a few minutes and then remove it and set aside.

Next set the same pot back on the stove, but this time over medium heat.

Then add more olive oil along with sliced peppers, onions, mushrooms, kosher salt, pepper, and steak seasoning.

Cook for 7 to 8 minutes and then stir in some garlic and Worcestershire sauce.

Let this simmer for one more minute, then remove the veggies and put them with the steak.

And now, my friends, we will make the rich, cheesy pasta sauce!

Set that same pot over medium heat on the stove and add 2 tablespoons of butter.

Once the butter is melted add 2 1/2 cups of heavy cream or half and half, kosher salt, pepper, and steak seasoning.

Bring that to a boil and then let it simmer for 6 to 7 minutes, stirring a few times.

Finally stir in a cup of shredded mozzarella cheese.

Making the homemade Alfredo sauce for the pasta

Add the cooked steak, veggies, and pasta into the pot with the sauce and toss until combined.

Taste for seasoning and add more kosher salt, pepper, and/or steak seasoning if needed.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound pasta of choice (I used fettucine)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1/2 pounds steak of choice (I used New York Strip) cut into cubes
  • kosher salt, pepper, steak seasoning blend of choice
  • 1 onion sliced or diced
  • 1 green bell pepper sliced or diced
  • 8 oz baby portobello mushrooms sliced
  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste or minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 1/2 cups heavy cream or half and half
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Boil the pasta in salted water according to package directions. Drain the pasta in a colander and rinse very well with cold water to prevent it from being mushy.

  2. Set the same large pasta pot over medium high heat and add one tablespoon of the olive oil, steak, kosher salt, pepper, and steak seasoning. Cook 4 to 5 minutes, stirring a few times. Remove the steak and set aside.

  3. Set the same pot over medium heat this time and add the remaining olive oil, onion, green pepper, mushrooms and more kosher salt, pepper, and steak seasoning. Cook 7 to 8 minutes. Add the garlic and Worcestershire sauce, cook 1 more minute then remove the veggies from the pot.

  4. To the same pot still over medium heat add the butter. Once the butter is melted add the heavy cream, kosher salt, pepper, and more steak seasoning. Bring to a boil and then reduce the heat to simmer for 5 to 6 minutes stirring a few times.

Note: Watch carefully as it comes to a boil, if it bubbles up just remove from the heat for a moment.

  5. Add the shredded mozzarella cheese and stir until melted. Then add the cooked pasta, cooked steak, and cooked veggies. Toss until evenly combined.

  6. Taste for seasoning and add more kosher salt, pepper, and/or steak seasoning if needed.
