This side dish recipe just kinda screams holidays! Maple Bacon Brussel Sprouts and Apples has the perfect balance of sweet and savory.
The mix of flavors from the bacon and apples and the maple syrup creates something extra special in this side dish.
I feel like brussel spouts get a bad wrap, but when cooked properly and with complimentary ingredients they are spectacular!
How to Make Maple Bacon Brussel Sprouts with Apples
First step in this amazing side dish is cooking the bacon.
Use kitchen scissors to cut 8 slices of bacon in bite size pieces into a skillet over medium heat,
Cook a few minutes and stirring a few times.
Remove the bacon and some of the bacon grease, leave just a bit of the grease for flavor when cooking the brussel sprouts.
Add some butter to the same skillet over medium heat with some of the bacon grease.
Once the butter is melted, add a pound of brussel sprouts that have been cut in half, cut side down.
Leave them alone just like this for 4 minutes.
This will create a nice char, crisp to the sprouts.
Then add 2 diced Honeycrisp apples, 1/2 cup maple syrup, 1/2 cup chicken broth, kosher salt, and pepper.
Cook 5 to 7 minutes, stirring a few times.
During the last minute, stir in the cooked bacon crumbles.
Maple Bacon Brussel Sprouts are best served right away 🙂
Taste for seasoning before serving and add more kosher salt and pepper if needed.

Maple Bacon Brussel Sprouts with Apples
Maple Bacon Brussel Sprouts and Apples is such an incredible side dish to serve with dinner
- 8 slices bacon
- 1 pound brussel sprouts
- 2 honeycrisp apples
- 3 Tbsps butter
- kosher salt, pepper
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
Use kitchen scissors to cut the bacon into bite size pieces directly into a skillet over medium heat. Cook 5 to 7 minutes, remove bacon pieces from the pan and set aside, leave a small amount of bacon grease in the skillet.
Cut the brussel sprouts in half lengthwise, set aside. Dice the apples.
Add butter to the same skillet with the bacon grease, still over medium heat. When the butter is melted, place the brussel sprouts cut side down in the skillet. Cook 4 minutes, then add the apples, maple syrup, chicken broth, kosher salt, and pepper. Cook an additional 5 to 7 minutes, gently stirring a few times.
Stir the bacon in and serve.
