Old Bay Beer Can Chicken has a garlic and butter rub with Old Bay seasoning, then smoked in a Traeger or smoker, or it can be baked in the oven!
Pat the chicken dry with paper towels.
Open the beer and pour 1/2 of the beer out (or drink it). Put the beer can in a foil pan or tray and sit the chicken cavity over the can, adjust the chicken so it is sitting upright on the can.
In a bowl mix together the butter, garlic, and Old Bay. Rub this mixture over all sides of the chicken. Then sprinkle all sides with more Old Bay Seasoning.
In the smoker: Set the smoker to 275 degrees, place the chicken on the smoker for approx 4 hours, depending on size of chicken. Internal temp should be 170 degrees.
In the oven: Move the oven rack to a lower level. Place the foil pan with the chicken in a 375 degree oven for approx 1 hour and 15 minutes. Internal temp should be 170 degrees.
