Old Bay Beer Can Chicken has a garlic and butter rub with Old Bay seasoning, then smoked in a Traeger or smoker, or it can be baked in the oven!

Ingredients
  • 1 whole chicken (4 to 6 pounds)
  • 1 12 oz can beer
  • 4 Tbsps butter at room temp
  • 1 Tbsp garlic paste or minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp Old Bay Seasoning (plus more to sprinkle over top)
Instructions
  1. Pat the chicken dry with paper towels.

  2. Open the beer and pour 1/2 of the beer out (or drink it). Put the beer can in a foil pan or tray and sit the chicken cavity over the can, adjust the chicken so it is sitting upright on the can.

  3. In a bowl mix together the butter, garlic, and Old Bay. Rub this mixture over all sides of the chicken. Then sprinkle all sides with more Old Bay Seasoning.

  4. In the smoker: Set the smoker to 275 degrees, place the chicken on the smoker for approx 4 hours, depending on size of chicken. Internal temp should be 170 degrees.

    In the oven: Move the oven rack to a lower level. Place the foil pan with the chicken in a 375 degree oven for approx 1 hour and 15 minutes. Internal temp should be 170 degrees.
