Salted Caramel Whiskey Chicken Wings

Salted Caramel Whiskey Chicken Wings

My husband nailed it with his recipe idea of Salted Caramel Whiskey Chicken Wings for sure 🙂

I’ve said it before, and I will say it again…he is the brains of this operation when it comes to creating new chicken wing recipes.

On Monday morning of all times, what is my husband thinking of?

See the answer with proof in the text below….he’s thinking of new chicken wing recipes!

Salted Caramel Whiskey Chicken Wings

We knew we would love these, so we got 5 pounds of jumbo split chicken wings from the butcher.

How to make Salted Caramel Whiskey Chicken Wings

I placed them in a bowl with some whiskey, sugar, kosher salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes.

seasoned wings in a bowl

Let these marinate several hours or even overnight, turning them a few times to make sure they are evenly coated.

When you are ready to bake them place on a wire baking rack over a lined baking sheet.

We actually had two trays full.

You could of course choose to deep fry them, air fry them, or even put them in the Traeger pellet grill or smoker instead.

The wings will bake in a 425 degree oven for 45-50 minutes.

I recommend turning them halfway through so both sides get that nice, crispy skin.

While the wings bake, make the Salted Caramel Whiskey Sauce.

In a saucepan add a 16 oz jar of caramel sauce, more whiskey, Frank’s Red Hot Sauce, soy sauce, and sea salt and whisk until evenly mixed.

Bring this mixture to a boil, watching it carefully, and right when it starts to bubble turn the heat to medium low.

Let this simmer away for 15 minutes.

Then add some sugar and cornstarch.

This will help the sauce to thicken.

My advice would be to let this come to room temperature before tossing with the wings as it will thicken even more as it sits.

When the wings are cooked (use an instant read thermometer to make sure), toss in the sauce and sprinkle with more sea salt right over top.

Fair warning they are sticky and messy, but oh…my…word…SO freaking delicious!!!

We make a great team for sure! Salted Caramel Whiskey Chicken Wings is just one of the many, many reasons why 🙂
